Induction Kits: The Boost your Car Needs

Motorsport racing, or even just for show, an induction kit or intake is the simple and affordable solution to unlock your car's true potential. Induction kits and intakes, also known as air intakes, enable your engine to inhale air freely and, as a result, provide your car with greater horsepower, torque, and a more spirited performance. For those new to the game, horsepower refers to the power your engine produces, and torque is a measurement of your cars ability to perform. The greater the number, the more power your car can produce. When adding an induction kit to your car, you can get up to +10BHP on average alone, but gains can fluctuate depending on the cars engine, whether it is tuned, as well as what other aftermarket parts are on the vehicle. When you first start modifying your car, an Induction Kit is the natural first step before you start exploring other performance parts. Normally you can install Induction Kits yourself, especially as all our Forge kits come with detailed instructions of how to install, saving you some pennies from going to a garage. In this blog, we focus on a few of our Carbon Fibre Induction Kits that we reckon make the biggest impression both aesthetically, and in terms of power. Owner: @marks_r32_lupo @mbbodyworxs Our infamous R32 Induction Kit 'FMIND5R32' that we released back in 2014, see's gains of up to 10BHP on stage 2 tuned vehicles over the stock air box, which is expected with the significant increase in size of the enclosed canister, and use of carbon fibre composite. We spotted this build at Ultimate Dubs 2023 by @marks_r32_lupo which features the kit, a fantastic looking vehicle that we as Forge are proud to see represent the brand. In November 2022, we released one of our biggest induction kits to date 'FMINDK40' for the EA888 Engine. Our intention for this kit was to be able to make it cross-compatible with VAG vehicles, while also ensuring that this specific kit could fit the MK7 platform because of it's popularity. To achieve this, we utilised SolidWorks CAD, CAD simulation, and 3D prototyping to ensure optimum size and geometry. Not to mention Forge's own MK8R that we relentlessly tested on to ensure the best product for our customers. If you couple this kit with our other aftermarket products like the Turbo Inlet Adapter 'FMTIA5', you can see gains of up to 16BHP at peak, and an average gain of 20NM torque. Paired with our matching Carbon Fibre Engine Cover 'FMEC3', it really is an eye-catching set up if you are looking to move away from the OE engine bay aesthetic. We always try and focus on flexibility and affordability at Forge. When the Yaris GR platform was on the rise, we decided to split the Inlet Duct and Upper Airbox into two separate components, especially as we wanted to stick with the Carbon Fibre look. The output of this set up resulted in 'FMINLD1' Inlet Duct and 'FMINDK43' Induction Kit. The Induction Kit can give you an average of 13BHP alone, without the added Inlet Duct and other aftermarket product improvements. We often use this set-up as an example of the sheer scale of engineering that goes into each of our Induction Kits and Intakes. In more recent years, it has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to use state of the art equipment to develop our products, especially as the outcome is proving to be fundamental in influencing the future of Forge Motorsport and Forge Engineering. So why should YOU get one? It's an upgrade that pays for itself not just in performance gains, but also in the pure joy it brings every time you venture out. It's a predominantly easy installation that you can do on your driveway, and an investment that lasts a lifetime, especially with the 10 Year Warranty that Forge offers. Shop all of our Induction Kits here, and if you have any questions about any of our kits, be sure to contact our sales team using the contact us form available here.

Unleash The Bavarian Beast ? The best parts for your BMW M3/M4

By Jimbo WallaceUnleash The Bavarian Beast – S55 M3 / M4BMW’s decision to downsize and turbocharge the latest M3/M4 is in line with all of the emissions conscious manufacturers of late, but whereas some have decried the move away from the high-revving, naturally aspirated (some say unreliable!) 4.0 V8 of the E92 M3 the latest turbo’d cars are now capable of making truly obscene leaps in power with the right bolt-on modifications. That’s why Forge now produces some of the finest supporting modifications to truly awake the beast from the within 3.0-litre straight six 3.0-litre turbo lump. The S55 lump in the F80 M3 / M4 is already no slouch, but with the aid of the Forge product line up along with some binary tweaking of the ECU and a free-flowing exhaust setup, it’s usual to see in region of 550 - 600hp from this seriously potent six banger. Of course, additional boost pressure also leads to increased intake temps and the associated reduction in life-giving, chilled compressed air to the inlet manifold. To remedy this as the turbo starts to work harder, we’ve developed a slew of products to keep things as chilled as Buddha on a two-week all-inclusive in Bali. Such Zen like cooling ability comes from years of engineering experience from within the R+D department at Forge HQ, so with some faith in the men in white coats, it’s possible pickup extra horsepower by drastically increasing intake air efficiency. When really pushing on with the S55 engine be wary that the crank hub bolt is a known weak spot and if it jumps a tooth or fails altogether the car could fall into limp or refuse to start altogether. Crank hub upgrades are now a very common S55 modification, so bear that in mind before going large with BMWs straight six allure and maxing out the revs all the time at higher power levels. Charge cooler - FMCC1If there’s one area of weakness that the S55 straight six is known for, particularly when upping the boost pressure, it’s the stock chargecooler setup. With such tight engine bay confines and so much plumbing, engine and turbo to account for, under-bonnet temps can easily creep up once the boost goes north and the output begins to climb. To combat such thermal inefficiency, Forge delved deep into water-cooled chargecooler tech and produced that’s more engine bay art than run of the mill aftermarket part. FMCC1 features an all aluminium construction which overcomes all the issues relating to plastic end tank splitting, failure at high boost and leaks between the core and end tanks with end tank seal failure. The end tanks are fabricated using high precision laser cut sheet metal panels which are TIG welded by hand for maximum strength and durability.Designed and manufactured at Forge Motorsport HQ in Gloucestershire, England, we utilised our Solidworks CAD design system to assist in the creation, modification, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis and optimisation of this innovative charge cooler. Three different core constructions were evaluated during the development process. The final design of a bar and plate core far outperformed the other two alternatives. In doing this, the Forge Motorsport development engineers have made a quadruple pass design, allowing the water to flow through four passes of the cooler which improves the cooling efficiency beyond any other products currently on the market.Offering over a 71% increase in volume and over 42% increase of frontal area, in hot climate testing, constant dyno runs showed significantly lower inlet temperatures compared with the stock system and an increase in power of up to 20BHP.£1798.80 Chargecooler Radiator FMCCRAD6To be used in conjunction with the Chargecooler and expansion tank upgrade (above), or as a standalone cooling upgrade, the auxiliary Polarcooler radiator for the M3 / M4 helps to reduce coolant temps further still. Building on lessons learnt when developing our successful range of Audi and Mercedes charge cooler system upgrades, Forge has now designed this uprated charge cooler rad to gain maximum air flow thanks to a significant increase in both surface area and internal volume. With an internal capacity of upto 1.7-litres and a built-in bleed port this upgrade requires no cutting, drilling or adaptation of the chassis or bodywork at all. Measuring in at 545 x 460 x 32mm it’s a no brained upgrade for those seeking to get the very best from their M-powered Beemer. £719.99Boost pipes - FMBP1Designed as a direct replacement for the OEM plastic boost pipes used on BMW S55 engine found in the BMW F80 M3, F82 and F83 M4 models, which have been known to fail with cracks forming along the plastic welded section between the main tube and plastic coupler. Manufactured in 60mm diameter Aluminium tube with CNC machined couplers to maximise flow. To ensure an OEM quality fit both hardpipes have been carefully contoured to fit in the restricted space between the engine and chassis. No further modifications are necessary to the bodywork or pipework.Supplied with a durable black powdercoated finish, all fitting hardware, hardpipes and silicone hoses to allow fitment to both the OEM chargecooler, or the Forge chargecooler, this kit will improve flow and longevity for many years to come.Compatible Vehicles: BMW M3 – 2015 onwards F80 M3, BMW M4 F82 and the 2015 onwards F83 M4£482.98Carbon Fibre Induction Kit - FMINDK12Take a deep breath because this belongs in a gallery, not on your driveway! As Cypress Hill once famously warbled, “Inhale, exhale. Just put an induction kit in the mail.” Or something like that. Anyway, the latest carbon fibre intake from Forge is created from a mould that is hand-finished and refined by one of our many skilled craftsmen at Forge Motorsport’s HQ in Gloucestershire, England. The men in white coats utilised Forge’s Solid works CAD design system to assist in the creation, modification, analysis and optimisation of the high flow application. The Forge Carbon air intake has been designed to improve the engines ability to breathe and to increase performance. Our engineers have looked at every characteristic and made improvements in volume, shape, size of intake and airbox construction, this has all been maximised to contribute in achieving optimum performance and allow the engine to draw in as much air as possible. The airbox comes manufactured in an autoclave using prepreg carbon fibre, by using this technology on Forge Carbon fibre parts we have made a product that is much lighter and (20-40%) stronger than liquid infusion. With this unique, sleek design, you can expect to see a carbon fibre housing that flows beautifully along the engine bay, giving you more horsepower and torque, and hopefully an appreciation for the care and time that has gone into the production.Having spent so much time on the carbon development we then turned to the equally important aspect of filtration. We engaged our technical partners and experts in Filtration Control, Pipercross. With over 25 years’ experience in both the domestic and motorsport market they recommended a multi-layer foam construction filter, these filters work perfectly in our High Flow range and the brace of filters provided flow 30% more air than the stock filter while fitting snuggly within the housing.During independent dyno tests we saw impressive gains of 12hp and 20ft/lbs, so the flow characteristics of the new airbox make it the perfect way to enhance and amplify one of Bavaria’s flagship Ulitmate Driving Machines. £1249.99

A French Flight Of Fancy - Megane RS Upgrades

A French Flight Of Fancy - Megane RS UpgradesThe Megane is a sure-fire hot hatch legend. Entertaining, tenacious, rabid through the bends and always willing to lift an inside rear wheel whenever the chance arises, particularly in ultra-exclusive Trophy R guise with its lightweight carbon fibre parts and custom tuned Ohlins suspension the Mk4 Megane RS280 and 300 have become the stuff of Dieppe-produced legend over the last couple of years or so. In fact, few hot hatches have been heaped with more praise than the entire Megane RS back catalogue, so it’s only natural that we’d want to get in on the hot hatch action that makes this French weapon so very scintillating to hustle. The 1.8-litre derivative of the Alpine A110 engine sees itself pushed further than ever before in both 280hp and 300hp formats here, yet the direct-injection lump is still capable of supporting even more boost to unleash further ponies from the French stallion. Although statistically not as quick as many of the AWD uber hatch rivals that it shares the marketplace with, the Megane is all about the way it makes you feel. It fizzes with excitement, accuracy and agility, carries slightly less mass than all of the four driveshaft competitors, and always puts a massive grin upon the face of anyone who steps inside – it really does make you feel alive. To further capitalise upon the inner hooligan contained within the Mk4 Megane RS, Forge Motorsport added a range of new parts to improve efficiency and regulate boost pressure more positively than ever before - hold on to your PSI, the ride’s about to get a lot quicker. Mk4 Megane 280/300 Uprated Boost HosesDesigned to replace OE part numbers 144605812R, 144632831R. and 144636922R, the latest flurosilicone hoses from Forge promise to contain and withstand the sort of the PSI only usually seen on highly tuned or remapped engines. With a no-quibble, 10 Year Warranty they’re sure to outlast the OE rubber version, withstand heat cycles more durably and also keep the boost precisely where it’s meant to be – in the engine! Not only an aesthetic upgrade – particularly as they come in a Renault Sport aping yellow hue, you also have the choice of red, blue and black, these latest hoses won’t let you down. The kit includes four Flurosilicone lined hoses, two CNC machined billet couplers, and all the hose clamps required to make them a plug and play install for even the most reserved of spanner twiddlers. Look out for part number FMKT027How much? £220.00 inc VATMk4 Megane 280/300 Large Bore Inlet HoseReplaces OE part number 16 57 542 63R and promises to free up the flow of the factory airbox straight into the rear mounted turbo. By reducing the complexity of the inlet pipe more air can be freely breathed by the turbocharger as it gulps down as much life-giving oxygen as possible to keep up with the demands of the direct injection 1.8-litre engine. A simple upgrade but one that has a big impact upon performance and aesthetics because the larger hose comes in yellow, red, blue and black options to lift any factory looking engine. Cast aside the standard hard plastic offering and upgrade to the best thanks to Forge Motorsport. FMINLH14 is the part to keep your eyes peeled for.How much? £69.98 inc VATMegane RS280/300 Blow Off ValveThe OE electronically controlled bypass valve is a well-documented weak spot of the 1.8-litre boost system. Part number 144839204R is well known to fail, although detecting that it has done so is problematic without a diagnostic scan of the ECU. A check engine light is also particularly unusual as the valve is still able to be blown open by the boost pressure as it surges through the system. Quite often this leads to an inability of the diaphragm within the OE valve to seal properly. That’s why the latest Forge Blow Off Valve is particularly well suited to engines that operate in warmer climates or have received software upgrades to the ECU that generate additional boost pressure in the system. The Forge alternative is a CNC machined ally item fitted with a red actuator spring as standard (other poundage options are available) and it works via a piston rather than a diaphragm, so its reliability is unquestioned. It also retains the desirable ECU control albeit with the pressure / vacuum operated valve aluminium inside. For those who seek premium quality ptissshh-tissch to atmosphere sound effects, and to re-enact every possible gearchange from Fast and Furious, there’s no need to look further than FMDV23A as it comes supplied with everything you need to make installation simplicity itself. For the recirculating version that vents additional boost back into the inlet tract, look for part number FMDV23R.How much: £199.51 incl VATForge Multi Use Oil CapAnd finally, here’s an aesthetic treat to brighten up and lift the appeal of a handful of modern-day engine bays. This billet aluminium oil cap will replace your OEM one, leaving your engine bay with a premium Champagne look that’s achievable on a lemonade budget. Spruce up your under-bonnet appeal - make your Megane appear as if it’s worth every part of that £28k+ price tag. This cap is available in a choice of body colour (black or polished) and a choice of cap top insert (black or polished), so you can tailor the appearance to suit whatever sort of black plastic ocean it’s about to enter. Compatible Vehicles for fitment of this oil cap include: Hyundai i30NHyundai Veloster NHonda Civic Type RNissan GTR R35Renault Megane RS Mk4 280 / 300Look out for FMCAP5 to find out more. How much? £36.00 Inc VATThere you have it, not just one of the all-time great driver’s cars made even better thanks to Forge Motorsport, but a car that you can pound upon harder, take to the redline more often and stand back and admire when you’re done. What’s not to love about that? Bon voyage mon ami. By: Jimbo Wallace

Top Forge Hyundai i30N Must Have?s

By: Jimbo WallaceThe Korean invasion has begun, and we simply won’t be able to hold it back if they keep making cars as good as the Hyundai i30N and the Kia Stinger V6. Like it or not, not all hot hatches are made by the German’s, Hyundai even poached the former design chief of M-Sport to make the i30N, so it will come as little surprise that the plucky Korean upstart took to the top tier of the hot hatch ladder as soon as it landed in the UK. So, Forge jumped onboard immediately and starting R+D-ing the perfect range of upgrades to take the hot hatch and transform it into more of a hyper hatch. Here’s our top products to make your Hyundai a true GTI, maybe even an R slayer, in the right hands. 1. i30N Induction Kit - FMINDK2820hp. Yes, you read that right. 20hp! That’s what the latest induction kit from Forge could unleash from the 2.0T-GDi engine. Already knocking out either 249 or 275hp (depending upon spec) from the factory, it’s possible to improve air flow into the turbo drastically with this kit. The 102mm mandrel bent inlet pipe and a surface area increase of 60% from the Pipercross free-flowing foam filter ensures that power and torque increases are assured throughout the rev range. In fact, surprisingly, when we ran our cat back exhaust equipped car on the Litchfield dyno, the car made monster improvements to net 296hp and 310ft.lbs of torque. We’re sure you’ll agree, that’s none to shabby for little more than an intake filter and a cat back system. Available with red, blue or black silicone hoses to perfectly complement the powder-coated black finish of the inlet pipe, this is one kit offering bang per buck that few others can hope to match. 2. i30N Big Brake Kit - FMBKI30NNo fast car is complete without powerful brakes to add some whoa to the go. Consider that you spend roughly 70% - 80% of your time turning or braking on most circuits and effective brakes with decent suspension become statistically ‘faster’ and more useful than adding more power. The Hyundai i30N big brake kit from Forge offers our tried and tested six piston calipers with 356mm x 32m ventilated discs, so they’ll squeeze onto most cars running 18-inch+ wheels. Slotted, two-piece bell and rotor discs are supported by EBC Yellowstuff pads for the ultimate retardation. Leave that apex as late as you like before you stomp on the middle pedal thanks to Forge, and make sure your performance also matches the aesthetic upgrade that this disc and caliper kit promises. Hosetechnik braided hoses are also included to enhance pedal feel further still and virtually eliminate brake fade no matter how hard you pedal your rapid Hyundai3. Hyundai i30N/Veloster N - Turbo Inlet Adaptor FMTIA2An uprated turbo intake pipe with a larger diameter (102mm) hose to eek every last drop of performance from any i30N or Veloster. This silicone intake pipe and all billet inlet adapter is only compatible with the Forge i30N / Veloster specific induction kit (FMINDK28), it will not work with a standard intake setup. So, what can you expect from this nifty bit of pipework that offers a 150% increase in capacity when paired with our induction kit over stock? In a nutshell, a rather startling performance increase. Just taking the turbo inlet pipe into account we saw a 10hp gain on a MAHA independent dyno. Casting aside the restrictive aluminium intake pipe really nets some impressive results after any i30N / Velostar is taken to stage 1 or 2 ECU levels of tweaking. Messing with the binary within the onboard computer makes this Intake Pipe a mandatory modification, and like all Forge products it also comes with a no quibble lifetime guarantee for ultimate peace of mind. So, if you seek a noticeable increase in both power and torque from as little as 3000rpm, the 4” Forge intake pipe should be on every aspiring GTI and R hunter’s shopping list. Consider it part of a step-by-step plan to extract what Hyundai probably wanted to in the first place, but legislation probably prevented them doing so. As is standard across all Forge products, there will also be no EML lights on the dash when you fit one of our products. 4. Short Shift Kit - FMSS3Sharpen up that gearshift and make the act of swapping cogs even more tactile and engaging courtesy of Forge. This simple duo of bracket revisions brings with it the benefit of leverage to reduce the throw across the gate of the six-speed ‘box. The horizonal and vertical travel between gears can be set to standard or reduced by any amount up to approximately 50%. Powdercoated in stealth black to ensure OEM good looks on top of the gearbox this is one of the most effective, easily reversible upgrades you can make to the i30N. Cheap too. 5. Intercooler Upgrade - FMINT15Reduce those inlets temps and increase both power and reliability as a result. Stay chilled this summer in your i30N and make sure every ounce of boost is made the most of as the inlet air is kept far cooler than it has any right to. More time on track, or on the go-faster pedal will result with the fitment of this front mount intercooler upgrade bolted into position. If you seek sustained abuse of your i30N this will be just the ticket for the job. If you use a i30N for fast road or have a high-performance tune in a hot climate, this product is essential. Thanks to 129% more volume and an increase of frontal surface area over 71% this upgrade brings with it notable power increases as well. When combined with our intake kit and high-quality cat back exhaust system, we witnessed incredible power increases from 275hp and 278ft.lbs jump up to 307hp and 347ft.lbs. When combined with one of our ECU remaps we’d also expect to see further gains. Not only did the power and torque climb, but the inlet air temps more than halved over the stock cooler. It comes with all of the bolts, brackets and pipework necessary to install on a stock car and can be fitted in around 2.5 hours depending upon spanner twiddling experience. 6. Recirculation/Dump Valve - FMDV20Combining the best of both worlds usually involves a compromise, but not with the Hyundai i30N recirculation and to atmosphere dump valve. This nifty little collection of CNC billet, springs and a piston, allows for boost levels way beyond factory to be precisely monitored and vented upon request. The super durable and precisely machined piston assembling has been designed for extra-long service intervals. The forced induction sound effects that everyone craves can be dialled in perfectly or held back entirely when operated as a diverter valve – the choice is entirely yours.Varying boost levels can also be dealt with via interchangeable springs with different poundage rates to delay any additional boost pressure from escaping prematurely. You can also rest assured that the valve will last decades due to the complete UK production process taking place at Forge HQ in Gloucestershire. If responsiveness, durability and high class aesthetics are your kind of thing, look no further than the i30N Recirculation and Dump Valve from Forge Motorsport. Replaces OEM Part no. 282342-CTA4

The Greatest Forge Motorsport Project Cars - The Doran's Ford RS200

What do you get if you take one of the most extreme rally cars of all time, remove all performance restrictions and mix in a collection of high end parts from Forge Motorsport and a whole host of other tuning firms? The Monster Energy/Forge Motorsport Ford RS200, that’s what. Owned by the Doran clan, a family best known for their ownership of Lydden Hill and success in Rallycross, this particular RS200 was built for one purpose and one purpose alone – to win the Unlimited Class at Pikes Peak, the ultimate hillclimb prize and an event that’s long been acknowledged as one of the most extreme of its type in world motorsport. The Ford RS200 has passed into petrolhead folklore for a variety of reasons, though the fact that it was prodigiously powerful and incredibly sophisticated for its time certainly helped. Sadly, as was the case with a number of the Group B projects from various car makers, the RS00 was simply too late to the party to make much of an impact. The car made its works debut at the 1986 Swedish Rally with Stig Blomqvist and Kalle Grundel driving, the latter eventually fighting through to finish 3rd. This was to be the car’s best result, a combination of weight, poor reliability and lack of time – Group B was canned in tragic circumstances and Ford pulled out before the end of the year, contributing to a less than stellar top-flight WRC CV. Not that this prevented the RS200 from enjoying an incredible career in Rallycross, and from the late ‘80s to the mid ‘90s it was to be found doing battle with a host of other Group B refugees, namely the Lancia Delta S4, the Audi S1E2 Quattro and the Peugeot 205T16.Rallycross is a bit like World Rallying’s scruffy, slightly un-hinged sibling, the one you wouldn’t trust around matches, so it follows that Pat and Liam’s RS200 was a bit of a weapon before the Pikes Peak assault was mooted, but the nature of project most certainly raised the stakes somewhat! The actual fabrication work was undertaken by Julian Godfrey Engineering, an engineering specialist with a rich history of constructing certifiable fast Fords, with many of the parts supplied by Forge Motorsport. It became apparent that the car would have to be extensively re-worked if it was to ever be competitive at Pikes Peake, a 12.42 mile ascent featuring 156 turns, ultimately climbing to a 14,110ft high summit. Put simply, the task at hand presented far, far more of a challenge than a quick blat around Lydden Hill!A huge array of advanced Forge Motorsport alloy hardware eventually found its way onto the Dagenham bruiser, including a mammoth intercooler and radiator. The former now resides in the centre duct above the roof, right in the path of the airflow and therefore ideally placed for maximum efficiency. Ringing the best part of 925bhp from a relatively small engine obviously involves a whole lot of forced induction wizardry and in turn generates a phenomenal amount of heat, hence why cooling was such a priority for both Forge and the Doran clan when it came to drawing up the car’s spec. The RS200’s iconic BDT E2 was treated to a number of rather drastic modifications in order to render it suitable for the immense task at hand, the most significant being the increase in capacity from 1.8l to a whopping 2.4l. The team at Julian Godfrey Engineering then introduced it to a mammoth Turbonetics turbocharger, one far larger and more advanced than Boreham was ever permitted to use in the car’s works career, plus meatier, more capable BOVs and Wastegates, bespoke Forge boost and intake pipework and, to keep the immense pressures and temperatures in hand, a custom water-meth injection system based around a Forge tank. There’s more – much more! Forge’s alloy expertise litters the Doran RS200, a sure sign of the company’s standing within the discerning UK motorsport community. A Forge penned oil cooler now keeps both steering and engine reserves cool enough to function, while a dry sump kit (with Forge designed tank) allows the mighty BDT to slurp its fill of oil at all times, whether or not the car happens to be cornering at a semi-impossible angle halfway up a mountain at the time! Other Forge supplied hardware you might notice include the differential breather tank (as we’ll see, the RS200’s transmission and drivetrain were worked very hard indeed), header and engine breather tanks and water swirl pot. Phew!Forge’s network of engineers also carried out some general repair to the ‘80s bruiser, including a re-manufactured rear exhaust section, a repair to one of the exhaust manifolds and some custom brake ducting, the latter an essential addition considering some of the gut-wrenching drops on the Pikes Peak course. While it’s fair to say that the RS200’s 900bhp-BDT is a bit of a headline grabber, the engine itself must play second fiddle to the way this Group B exile actually looks – straight up terrifying. If ever there was a car set to mug you for your lunch money on the way to school, the Doran RS200 would be it. The collection of aero-sculpted appendages – including the Forge-penned front canards and rear wing extensions, make it look like nothing else on earth, while also helping glue it to the ground when cornering at speed. It’s a case of form following function, and it’s all the better for it!So, what happened? Well the freshly built Ford made it to the states in time for the 2012 Race To The Clouds where it was slated to take part in the bill-topping Unlimited class. Pat Doran was the man tasked with hurling the RS200 up the world’s most demanding hill climb in as short a space of time as possible, and he was all set to do it when fate intervened; the car’s gearbox decided it’d had quite enough of functioning correctly and promptly threw in the towel. Finding spares for a European Group B rally car in rural Colorado is, as you can probably imagine, quite a challenge, and this ultimately saw the cancellation of the assault. The team were back at the mountain in 2013 with a revised car, though their bad luck had decided to stick around. The RS200 was fast but tricky to manhandle, and the first run culminated with a scary off for Pat, the rear of the car snapping into oversteer on a tightening right hander. Pat was fine and the damage was light, but it put paid to the run. The team went back to the bottom of the hill to lick their wounds and review the damage, and were able to rebuild the car within a matter of hours and with much frantic spannering. This mammoth team effort was enough to see the somewhat bedraggled RS200 back in one piece before the end of the weekend, in turn meaning Pat could have another assault. This went a lot more smoothly, the Englishman crossing the line in 10 minutes and 14 seconds, good enough for 6th place overall. No mean feat for a first trip to Pikes Peak in a hastily rebuilt, 30-odd year old Ford!Teething troubles and misfortune aside, this RS200 remains one of the most rewarding projects Forge has had the pleasure of being involved with, and there’s no doubt that Pat and Liam Doran will be back at Pikes Peak at a latter date – they’ve unfinished business!

The Top 10 Forge Motorsport Parts For Your Mini

It’s fair to say that the BMW Mini, hereafter known simply as ‘the Mini’, had a somewhat difficult birth, primarily because memories of the iconic, Monte Carlo-conquering original took a long while to fade! Now in its third generation, the Mini has most certainly hit its stride, and it is now one of the most popular cars within the global tuning scene. Virtues like keen handling, impressive performance and timeless styling are all in abundance, but, as is often the case, there’s far more available via the aftermarket. The Mini is something of a Forge Motorsport strong suit; we’ve supported the UK’s Mini Challenge for many years now and supply performance parts to both the R56 and F56 cars which makeup the grid. Our range isn’t exactly short on performance enhancing kit either, hence why we’ve opted to pinpoint 10 of the most popular Mini products within the Gloucester firm’s range. So without further ado…1) Mini Cooper S (R53) – Alloy Strut BraceIf there’s one thing that the Mini name has always been known for, it’s superb handling. The R53 Cooper S, the first of the new generation cars built under BMW’s watch, had brilliant cornering poise right out of the box, but all mass market cars must be built with compromises – hence why there’s room for improvement! This alloy strut brace does just that, helping to link both sides of the car together and provide some extra stiffness and strength when cornering with commitment. It should be noted that it’s only for first gen, pre-2007 cars (those with the supercharger); it simply won’t fit over the later car’s turbo assembly. Price: £166.70 inc VAT 2) Mini Cooper S (R53) – Upgraded Air-To-Air IntercoolerOne of our longest running and most popular parts for the Mk1 Cooper S, this uprated air-to-air intercooler is a vastly more capable bit of kit than the standard part, and is therefore all but essential if you’re planning some serious power tuning further down the line. We experimented with a whole host of different end-plate and core designs before settling on this one, not to mention trials with a charge-cooler. The end result was this design, one that’s been on sale in an unchanged form for over 10 years now. It’s proven to significantly reduce intake temperatures, as much as 29% in some applications.Price: £370.10 inc VAT 3) Mini Cooper (F56) – Induction KitWe’ve discussed the importance of sophisticated, restriction-free inlet tracts before, and this rings especially true for the Mini Cooper. It’s an aspect of tuning that we know a great deal about thanks to our long standing sponsorship of the Mini Challenge, and this has led directly to this induction kit. Developed for the 2.0 petrol engines found in both the Cooper S and Cooper JCW (though it will also fit the 1.5 engined cars), the intake presents a far more efficient route for the airflow to take, while the included aluminium heat shield doubles as a scoop to direct air from the cold air inlet on the slam panel. It’s been proven to make an impressive 10bhp on our dyno.Price: £291.61 inc VAT 4) Mini (F56) – Adjustable Rear Tie BarsAnother product of our long standing association with the Mini Challenge, these adjustable tie-bars make a brilliant addition to any F56-gen Mini, and as the name suggests, give a great deal of scope for minute adjustments to key chassis traits like castor and camber. Having such control over suspension geometry can mean a reduction in uneven tyre wear and an increase in tyre-surface contact area, which in turn can have a dramatic impact on lap times. The beautifully manufactured bars are powder coated for a long life, are covered by our industry leading warranty and even come with a specially commissioned, high performance polyurethane bushes.Price: 299.99 inc VAT 5) Mini Cooper S (R56) – 356mm Front Brake KitIdeal for those Mini owners seeking the last word in stopping ability, these massive 32×356mm front brakes are the end result of an exhaustive development process. The end result is an incredibly capable setup consisting of said grooved discs, our own braided hoses, mountings, suitably high friction pads, and of course a set of 6 pot calipers. It’s a kit which we feel strikes the correct balance between out and out performance, real world usability and weight, though the diameter of the discs means that wheels of at least 19in will be required, and a spacer may also be needed to provide enough caliper clearance.Price: £1500.00 inc VAT 6) Mini Cooper S (R56) – Uprated Alloy IntercoolerWe don’t hang around when it comes to drawing up alloy go-faster bits for the Mini, hence why we were one of the first to acquire an R56 Cooper demo car mere weeks after the model went on sale! This uprated alloy intercooler was one of the first products of our development drive, and it remains one of our best selling kits for the second generation car. The intercooler wasn’t merely first to market back in 2007, it was one of the first ‘coolers to use our groundbreaking L-shaped core design, one that’s been proven to offer exceptional cooling efficiency and contributes to its 250% larger surface area and 125% thicker base core.Price: £488.19 inc VAT 7) Mini Cooper/S/Clubman (R56/R55) – Noise Generator Delete PipeThis high flow intake charge hose has been designed for cars with the 1.6 Turbo engine found in the Cooper, Cooper S and Clubman, and mates up to the throttle body at the rear of the engine bay. Extensive testing revealed the OEM part to be somewhat restrictive, a problem made all the worse on early cars with a noise generator placed in situ, hence this complete solution, one which promises improved turbo response throughout the rev range. The pipe’s silicone construction also means it is more resistant to temperatures and pressures than the factory version.Price: £78.48 inc VAT 8) Mini Countryman Cooper/Cooper S (all 4×4) (R60) – Performance Exhaust SystemThis is a complete, clean-sheet, cat-back exhaust design specifically for the Mini Countryman, and is therefore guaranteed to fit perfectly, right out of the box. It’s constructed from 63.5mm tubing and features a downpipe with a machined collar, flex joints, laser cut brackets, two-piece centre section, carefully fabricated Y-piece, and left and right hand rear silencers with machined mounting brackets. The system ends with a pair of 90mm resonated tail pipes designed to fit both standard cars and those fitted with the Cooper Works bodykit. Not only does the system sound great, it offers genuine performance gains over the OEM-fitted part, and these will only be enhanced on those cars which have been remapped.Price: £793.80 inc VAT9) Mini (F56) – Coilover KitA new addition to our F56 range, these advanced coilovers for the F56 Mini are ideal for both track and street driving. They boast a full 32 levels of damping adjustability which means that there’s huge scope for the minute changes, and even permit adjustment of both bump and rebound settings at the same time. The length of the shock can be toggled which prevents the need to adjust the spring perch like on a normal coil-over, and so offering the maximum shock-absorbing travel, while the high viscosity oil in the damper reservoir ensures efficient shock-absorbing action. Last but not least, the trick design of the coilovers means that both the shock and spring platform can be adjusted at the same time, which means that massive drops in ride height are possible, though supporting modifications will be required if you actually want to drive it!Price: £1162.02 inc VAT 10) Mini Cooper S (R56) – Alloy Header TankWe thought we’d round off this list with one of the products we’re perhaps best known for, a stunning alloy header tank for R56 Cooper S. We’ve built our reputation on high quality alloy components like this so you can be sure that you’re buying a product which will give countless miles of service, and will look suitably stunning nestled within the engine bay of your Mini. It’s hand crafted and polished right here in the UK, meaning that fitment will be both swift and straightforward.Price: £218.80 inc VAT

Top 5 Track Car Bargains & the Forge Motorsport Parts You Should Fit to Them

Top 5 Track Car Bargains & the Forge Motorsport Parts You Should Fit to ThemTrack days have never been more popular, and it really isn't that hard to see why. The modern world has undeniably taken some of the fun out of driving quickly on the public road, and while this is no doubt a good thing from a safety perspective, it's hard not to get a tad wistful for the days when it was possible to go for a Sunday evening B-road blast without coming back with a pocket full of speeding fines and a license full of points. Track days are the complete solution to this issue, allowing you cart blanche to stretch your cars legs without having to fear for your license or the safety of other road users. With the above in mind, here's the Forge Motorsport rundown of the top 5 track day bargains, all for £5000 or less. We've also included a link to a Forge part that's well worth investing in if you are considering monstering your local circuit. 1) Renault Clio 172/182Mark our words, in 10 years time (probably less) we'll look back on the days when Clio 172s and 182s could be picked up for buttons, and collectively kick ourselves for not buying them by the bucket load! Renault was alone in proving that France still knew how to turn out a scintillating hot hatch for much of the noughties, and the Clip 172 and 182 were undoubtedly the firm's high point. Capable of bloodying the noses of cars which are (on paper at least) far more potent, Clio 172 and 182s stick to the classic hot hatch formula of low weight and keen handling, allied to an engine with buckets of character – and even more tuning potential. We'd grab one while they're still relatively plentiful and affordable. It might not be a car traditionally associated with the Forge range, but we can in fact supply an interesting mix of parts for Renault's early noughties 'buzz-bomb,' including this silicone intake hose kit - /Silicone_Intake_Hose_for_Renault_Clio_172182_and_Cup--product--265.html 2) Subaru ImprezaThe Subaru Impreza has gone through one heck of a journey over the course of the last 15 or so years, morphing from a gravel-chucking WRC hero to the perhaps the ultimate example of early noughties tuner firepower. Four-wheel drive it might be, but the Impreza can still be turned into a formidable track car, particularly when the skies cloud over and the rain starts coming down – as it's want to do in the UK! 'Bug eyes' and 'blob eyes' can still be had for very reasonable sums, though you'll have to dig a little deeper if you fancy living out your Colin McRae/Richard Burns fantasies in a 'Classic' shape car. What's an Impreza without a dump-valve, huh? Good thing we can supply valves of all kinds for all generations of Subaru's all-wheel drive icon - /Dump_Valve_for_Subaru_Impreza_2001_Onwards_Including_the_2009_GR_STi--product--794.html 3) Mk5 Golf GTIThe fifth generation of Golf GTI was charged with righting the wrongs of its predecessor, a car many felt had lost some of the hot Golf's characteristic sparkle. It succeeded in this respect, and then some, effectively moving the hot hatch game on in leaps and bounds. It says much that both the Mk6 and Mk7 Golf GTIs stuck closely to the Mk5's proven formula, underlining both the importance of the latter and its innate quality. It’s still a fast car and one which can be used for everything from daily driving duties, right up to track day and club motorsport heroics, meaning that there really is no need to compromise when buying one. It probably won't surprise you that the Mk5 Golf is very well catered to by the Forge Motorsport range, with this intercooler kit being an especially popular option - /Uprated_Replacement_Front_Mounting_Intercooler_for_VW_Mk5--product--736.html 4) Mini Cooper S JCWFirst gen Minis of all kinds fall comfortably into our £5000 budget so there's plenty of choice, though the likes of the Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works make most sense for those interested in track work. All provide stirring if not life-changing performance (with the added cache of a supercharger to boot), brilliant handling and timeless looks. It's also worth noting that Forge has a long standing association with the Mini Challenge, the UK's main one-make Mini series, so you could say that the company knows them like the back of its proverbial hand! There's a lot to be said for taking the time to upgrade your Cooper's cooling setup, all the more so if you plan on driving your car on track, which is why Forge's upgraded air-to-air intercooler makes so much sense – /Mini_Cooper_S_Upgraded_Air_To_Air_Intercooler--product--734.html 5) Vauxhall Astra VXR (H)Luton's mid noughties hot hatch offering has aged rather well, and it still has the performance (and the tuning) potential to upset more modern contenders. What the VXR lacks in handling finesse it more than makes up for in road presence and, in standard guise at least, performance. 240bhp through the front wheels of a hot hatch was massive news 12 years ago, so much so that the VXR earned a reputation for somewhat unruly (read understeery) handling at the ragged edge, though this can be largely cured by the addition of an aftermarket Limited Slip Differential and some choice parts from the Forge Motorsport range. Coaxing greater power from the Z20LEH isn't exactly hard, though one of the most effective means of netting an extra 10bhp or so is via our induction kit - /Induction_Kit_for_the_H_Type_Astra_VXR--product--1080.html

The Top 5 Forge Motorsport Tuning Parts For Your MQB Platform

The MQB platform has formed the mainstay of the VAG range for a number of years now, long enough for the various VW sub-brands and offshoots to make full use of it, and there are certainly no shortage of models now based upon the same core architecture. This isn’t merely good news for VW’s accountants and marketing men, it’s fantastic for the global tuning community; the fact that there is so much commonality means that key tuning parts can be fitted to multiple models with little or no modification, so more folk than ever before can experience the benefits of modern tuning.Forge Motorsport has worked hard to develop a series of uprated tuning components for the likes of the Mk7 Golf, Audi TT and SEAT Leon (and there are many more in works), so with this in mind, here’s our rundown of the top 5 Forge parts for the MQB chassis.1) Mk7 Golf GTI/R, Audi TT 2.0 TSI and S3 Uprated Intercooler KitForge has gone to great lengths to devise a series of products designed to extract more power from VW’s tractable EA888 engine, and one of the best and safest ways of going about this (and in the process laying the groundwork for future tuning) is via advanced cooling, hence the first of two intercoolers on this list. A clean slate design to take into account the changes VAGroup made when replacing the Mk6 with the Mk7, the new cooler sits in the stock location and requires no modification to the radiator pack assembly. The intercooler does a superb job of reducing temperatures, prolonged dyno testing having shown a consistent drops of 25-30 degrees C, alongside an impressive 16bhp of extra power. Owners can expect even more with a remap and the usual aftermarket tuning hardware like exhausts and induction kits. Those seeking the last word in aftermarket inlet cooling technology might consider pairing this intercooler with the ‘twintercooler’ mentioned above, as the resulting setup will be supremely capable./Uprated_Intercooler_For_Golf_Mk7_Audi_TT_MK3_20_TSI_and_Audi_S3_8V_Chassis--product--986.html2) Golf Mk7 356mm 6-pot Big Brake KitPower, as the old adage goes, is nothing without control, hence why Forge developed this supremely capable 6-pot kit for the MQB chassis. Based around proven hardware and designed to function at the highest level for countless miles, the kit is based around the aforementioned 6-pot calipers, units with carefully spaced pistons intended to promote even pad wear and to exert even braking force. The mammoth 356mm discs boast grooves to remove braking residue and to maintain optimum performance for extended periods of time, while the kit ships with EBC’s much vaunted Yellow Stuff pads, a compound ideal for fast road and track-day use.Depending on your wheel design, you may need spacers between the hub and the wheel in order to clear the calipers. We have a stencil available for you to place behind your wheels to work out fitment. Please email Jamie@forgemotorsport.eu/356mm_6pot_Big_Brake_Kit_for__Golf_Mk7__Audi_S3_8V_chassis_--product--1387.html3) Golf Mk7 GTI ‘Twintercooler’ KitForge pioneered the idea of the ‘twintercooler’ on the Mk5 and Mk6 Golf GTIs and met with considerable success in the process. Inlet temperatures fell dramatically, while their respective designs allowed for the Forge components to be fitted in series, directly in front of the OEM intercooler/radiator/air condenser pack. As the name suggests, Forge’s latest offering builds on what it’s learned with the previous generation Golfs, while at the same time adding increased thermal efficiency to cope with the extra power (and therefore demands) generated by the Mk7’s extra power. The new cooler sits directly in front of the factory setup, right in the path of the cooling air entering from the grille. Those of you that like to keep your cars looking as VW intended will no doubt be pleased to learn that installation doesn’t involve chopping the front bumper, something of a Forge Motorsport calling card!As is the case with all Forge components with aspirations of making power, the twintercooler’s performance credentials have been proven on the dyno, with a massive 20 degree C drop in in intake temperatures having been recorded, with a marginal increase over the stock power figure to boot. The twintercooler is the ideal first upgrade, one that sows the seeds for further power tuning at a later date./Twintercooler_for_Golf_GTi_Mk7--product--1025.html4) EA888 2.0TSI Gen 3 Carbon Fibre Intake KitCooling might be essential to the continued health and wellbeing of any turbocharged engine, but so is induction, hence Forge’s all new carbon fibre intake tract for the EA888 engined cars based upon the MQB range. The result of a full year and a half of research and development, the intake doesn’t merely look amazing thanks to its unlaquered appearance (‘dry’ carbon fibre remains the coolest composite around), it has been proven to provide real world power gains, primarily thanks to its elongated inlet tract; it runs the full width of the slam panel and exploits the cold air ducts that VW/Audi saw fit to install but not utilise. The kit’s unique design promises improved throttle response and a vastly improved engine noise, a trait rendered all the more apparent when on boost! The Pipercross filter at its heart is servicable and will therefore provide years of life, while the aforementioned test process revealed it to be the only filter type able to offer adequate filtration to the engine, whilst still being capable of flowing enough air to offer an increase in horsepower and torque./Carbon_Fibre_Intake_Kit_for_Volkswagen_Audi_Seat_Skoda_20_TSI_EA888_GEN_3--product--1428.html5) EA888 Gen 3 Boost Gauge Fitting KitKeeping a keen eye on you engine’s vital statistics is good advice at the best of times, but it becomes crucial when it comes to fettled motors running higher boost levels than VW intended, hence Forge’s wide range of boost gauge fitting kits. This is an example of the latter, a simple to understand and easy to fit kit that will allow the installation of your gauge of choice. The adaptor itself fits between the boost (MAP) sensor and the inlet manifold, a position which means you can have a vacuum/boost connection that’s suitable for installing either a gauge or a dump valve in place within 5 minutes. Forge’s design even allows for the original engine cover to be re-fitted post installation, and it’s totally reversible so can be removed when the time comes to sell the car on./Boost_Gauge_fitting_kit__for_the_EA888_Gen_3_VAG_18_and_20_Tsi_engines--product--1390.html

Forge Motorsport Actuators - A Selection Of The Best

You’d struggle to come up with a single part that better embodies Forge Motorsport than the turbo actuator, a component that the Gloucestershire firm has well and truly mastered, so much so that it’s now an industry recognised specialist! Actuators are of course one of the key parts of any performance forced induction setup, and their importance only becomes more acute when boost pressures are increased in an effort to drive up bhp figures. The relationship between high tensile spring and beautifully engineered valve has been well and truly perfected by Forge over the last few years, and proof of this (if indeed it were required) can be seen in the sheer size of its actuator range. To underscore just how vast the Forge lineup is, we’ve take the time to throw the spotlight on 5 of the most interesting fitment options, including a number designed for old school icons and performance legends. Scroll down to learn more about the range, as well as Forge’s range of spring tuning kits and piston sealed actuators.1) Porsche 996 and GT2 Twin Turbo Actuator KitBased around an innovative piston design, this twin turbo actuator kit effectively eliminates one of the most frustrating aspects of more traditional actuator design, diaphragm failure. A clean sheet design which benefits from Forge’s decades of experience in the field, the Porsche kit comes complete with custom designed brackets for a simple installation process, plus springs suitable for boost levels slightly above those of standard. This means that both actuators are effectively ‘future proofed,’ perfectly suited for further power tuning at a later date.Click through for more information or to place an order:www.forgemotorsport.eu/Twin_Turbo_Actuators_for_Porsche_996_and_GT2—product—59.html2) Mk3 Focus RS Adjustable Wastegate Actuator Kit Gallons of ink have been spent waxing lyrical about the all new Ford Focus RS, and it’s easy to see why! Impressive in standard spec, the Mk3 RS will no doubt follow in the footsteps of its illustrious ancestors by becoming a fixture of the UK’s forward-looking tuning scene, hence why Forge has worked hard to include the model in its range of actuators. A masterclass in CNC machining, the wastegate actuator kit has been designed to fit seamlessly and to be serviced easily, meaning it can function as a base for further tuning as and when component hit the market. It’s assembled with a predetermined actuator spring suitable for slightly above factory boost levels, though it can be assembled with a stronger spring through one of Forge’s spring tuning kits – see below for more info.Click through for more information or to place an order: www.forgemotorsport.eu/Alloy_Adjustable_Turbo_Wastegate_Actuator_for_the_Ford_Focus_RS_Mk3—product—1475.html 3) Nissan GT-R Twin Diaphragm Actuator KitThe Japanese have long had a knack for producing supercar-trumping offerings that bristle with clever tech and innovative thinking, and the Nissan GT-R is a great example of this. Still the benchmark real world performance offering a full decade on from its launch, the GT-R can be tuned to produce earth-spinning power figures, all backed up by sure-footed four-wheel drive handling. This twin actuator kit is a direct replacement for the OE-fitted equivalents, and one that’s been a popular addition to the Forge range since its introduction some years ago. As with the vast majority of Forge products, both actuators in the kit can be assembled with stronger, more capable springs suitable for big-boost applications, so get in touch for more info. The kit has been developed to fit UK, Japanese and US GT-Rs.Click through for more information or to place an order: www.forgemotorsport.eu/Pair_Of_Diaphragm_Actuators_for_Nissan_GTR_R35—product—81.html4) Renault 5/21 Turbo Adjustable Actuator KitHot Renaults have been part of the tuning landscape for many years now, though it’s probably fair to say that they reached their peak in the mid to late ‘90s, a period dominated by the Renault 5 GT Turbo! Now a rare car (in part thanks to poor tuning and irresponsible levels of boost at the tail end of the last century), both the 5 and 21 Turbo are nonetheless well catered for by Forge Motorsport thanks to an adjustable actuator kit which enables the safe increase of boost levels over and above that of the standard car. This means an increase in performance, true, but also ensures that it doesn’t come at the expense of reliability. It’s the perfect marriage of modern performance tuning, clever engineering and retro hot hatch royalty!Click through for more information or to place an order: www.forgemotorsport.eu/Renault_5_and_Renault_21_Adjustable_Actuator—product—86.html Forge Spring Tuning KitsForge’s position as one of the UK’s foremost suppliers of tuning hardware means that it’s well placed to tailor its various components to suit the individual needs of its customers, and the firm’s range of actuators is no exception. The ‘default’ spring supplied with all Forge actuators is designed to work at boost levels it would consider marginally above stock pressure, a move designed to promote reliability. Those pushing for more power can order one of Forge’s spring tuning kits, packages which include all 4 springs in the range and which allow the actuator to be tailored to suit increased boost levels and states of tune.Diaphragm Sealed/Piston Sealed ActuatorsFurther evidence of Forge’s willingness to re-work its products to better suit the needs of individual cars can be found in the physical design of its actuators, with most fitments giving the option of diaphragm sealed or piston sealed internals. The former is the default design for the majority of Forge’s actuator offerings, as it’s the one that most customers associate with the company and has become something of an icon in the aftermarket tuning world. That said, the overwhelming global success enjoyed by the piston sealed actuator (especially in the USA) has inspired Forge to offer it as a selectable option via its website.
Forge Motorsport Honda Civic Type R FK2 Intercooler

HONDA CIVIC TYPE R FK2 INTERCOOLERWith our extensive development, we were very eager to use our wealth of knowledge to extract the best possible results from the Turbo charged Honda Civic Type R. Immediately we were able to increase the size of the core, allowing much more surface area and cooling efficiency than the stock core. Our intercooler now uses up all the space that Honda had failed to take advantage of.The core measures a massive 660x150x120 wide, and is of bar and plate design. The ducting completely surrounds the grill ensuring all of the air coming in the front of the car passes through the intercooler. The end tanks are designed such that the standard boost hoses can be retained, and are of cast aluminium construction. To ensure that this monster is adequately supported, the OEM mounting points are reused, which also eases the installation process. Total fitting time is only around 3 hours if you take your time, and can be fitted on a driveway if necessary. We have seen good power increases, and large temperature drops were achieved compared to the stock core, though it will really come into its own on a remapped engine! Please Note: This intercooler can be purchased in either Black or at an additional cost of £40+VAT you can have Red
